Inga strode by the large fitting area with two couches for customers to sit.
âIâve wanted this for monthsâ¦â A female voice trailed off.
âYouâve had too much to drink.â
Inga entered the room and gasped because her heart stopped beating. A female star-being clung to Osayik as he placed her onto the couch.
âKiss me.â The female grabbed at his face.
Ingaâs heart released a sound of a dying balloon. She didnât know love and hope could deflate from her like that, slow and painful. She clutched her chest as pain and betrayal knifed into her heart. Sheâd been wrong about him, wrong about herself. She should have known better. The male species were all the same. Why did she let herself believe Osayik could be different?
She backed away and bumped into a rack of clothing. It rattled and Osayik turned, meeting her eyes. Shock splashed across his face as the female puked onto the floor. He cursed and pulled the female back onto the couch.
Inga whirled and stalked out of the shop. She gathered whatever was left of herself, shoved it into her bag and headed out to her personal rider, wanting to go home.
Voices called her, but she ignored them. She strode past two soldiers who said, âGreat show, Inga.â
She didnât reply and continued on. She had encased herself in a protective shield, not allowing in anymore exterior distractions. More star-beings passed her, but she didnât register their faces or what they said to her.
She just needed to get home. Needed a quiet place where she could fall apart.
A combination of sadness and rage consumed her. Sadness because her heart had just experienced a massive eruption, ripping away the pretty image of their relationship. Rage because she blamed herself for believing in something that wasnât real. Deception was a monster that existed on all planets.
Despite what had occurred, her heart had felt alive during her time with him. She had felt love. For what it was worth, it gave her an opportunity to feel that emotion in all its facets.
A broken heart hurt like hell. The brokenness speared her deeply. Why did love have to hurt this much?
As she drove, she wallowed in the quietness and solitude. A comfortable place to remove the protective barrier. Tears rolled down her eyes like an unwelcome flood. She couldnât stop the torrent that blurred her vision.
A large rock smashed into the middle of the road about fifty feet from her personal rider. Inga slammed on her brakes, and the automatic emergency brakes also kicked in.
What the hell?
Her rider stopped inches away from a boulder that came out of nowhere. From the corner of her eye, a heinous creature between a wolf and a bear with bulging red eyes appeared. It licked its long tongue as it glared at her. It howled, and two more creatures arrived at the back of her rider.
Panic surged as she searched for a way out. She couldnât drive forward, and she couldnât go backward unless she went through the creatures. But they would topple the car and drag her out in no time.
